Hedy Lamarr Google Doodle – Google has come out with a wonderful Doodle honoring Hedy Lamarr, who is renowned both as a beautiful and talented actress and inventor/technology entrepreneur.
Born Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler in Austria in 1914, Ms. Lamarr co-developed a frequency-hopping system to prevent the Nazis from blocking the radio-frequency communications emitted by Allied torpedoes. Ms. Lamarr and co-inventor George Anthiel received a patent for the invention, which formed the basis for modern-day spread-spectrum communication technology. Spread-spectrum communications include GPS, Bluetooth, COFDM (an element of Wi-Fi network connectivity), and CDMA (an element of wireless cell phones).
